Medical Education

The nation's largest private teaching hospitals

Medical education is a crucial part of Baylor’s mission. During a residency, a physician trains in a particular medical specialty, developing clinical skills and professional competencies and taking on increasing responsibility for patient care. As one of the nation’s largest private teaching hospitals, Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas annually trains 151 residents and 34 fellows in eight specialties and 13 subspecialties. Another 18 physicians participate in the family practice residency program at Baylor Medical Center at Garland.

Quality teaching programs add many dimensions to a hospital’s ability to serve patients. As a renowned teaching hospital, Baylor Dallas attracts first-rate medical specialists who help improve the level of medical care for the entire community. Teaching programs also aid attending physicians in keeping their own knowledge current. Upon completion of their residency programs at Baylor, most physicians remain in North Texas, providing a continuous supply of well-trained medical professionals for the region.
